Mother, Home & Heaven
It has been said that the three most loved words in the English language
are Mother, Home and Heaven.
MOTHER—
is a wonderful word. It takes wisdom and courage to be a mother. It also
takes time—a
lot of time. Time to wash faces, comb hair and bandage scraped knees. Time
to keep a home clean and inviting, to plan and prepare nourishing meals
and wash, iron and mend clothes. It also takes understanding and patience
to be a mother. How often have I prayed to my Heavenly father that I might
learn to have that patience and understanding. It takes many qualities and
abilities to be a good mother but must of all it takes love.
HOME—The
word has different meanings to each of us. Some may think of a house, a
farm, apartment, a mansion or a motel. Others may think of a trailer, a
camp, a boat or a room where they just go to sleep. The longer I live the
more certain I become that material things—the
architecture and furnishings mean little in the creation of a true home.
The essential items are intangible—love,
sympathy, understanding, encouragement and faith. Despite what we read
about homes having to be about families living together, I think a true
home is wherever love is the foundation of everything. No matter if you
dwell in a place together with a big family, as a couple, or just by
yourself. If you do not feel safe, and at peace while there, it is not
home. Peace, and peace of mind are just by-products of love. A good home
has it’s
roots based on love and built with fixed principles and morality which
stem from the spiritual. Though we know that there are unhappy memories
from time to time, if you can look at the place you dwell with a bounty of
memories marked with love, happiness, understanding, peace and faith—that
is
“home.”
HEAVEN—The
Bible is full of references to heaven. That wonderful
“eternal
home”
that awaits those who believe in God’s
salvation. Perhaps it has been a long time since you have read John’s
description of heaven as God gave him the revelation, or maybe you have
never read it. Take some time to read Revelation chapters 21 and 22. Make
sure it use a translation that is easy to understand. The most glorious
part of heaven is that it will be filled with His presence. It’s
all about love—His
love for us—our
love for Him.
Not long ago at work a Christian co-worker and I were
discussing the recent death of my mother and my friend was comforting me
with the promise of being reunited eternally in heaven.
There was another co-worker close who commented on our discussion of
eternity and the hereafter negatively. She said,
“do
you really believe that?”
“My
father was an atheist and my mother was an alcoholic, and I am the result
of that messed up home.”
She walked off with this final word,
“Who
wants to live forever if it means spending eternity with my mother!”
Obviously those three words, mother, home and heaven were not loved by
her. They had nothing what so ever to do with love.
Are these three words of love for you? Will they be three
words of love for those around you bringing happiness? They can be.
Remember
“God
is love”—find
God, find Love. Share God—share
love.
